We’re so excited to share with you our next episode of Candid Convos, where we discuss virtual staffing in the new remote economy with a lawyer or other business owner who utilizes virtual staff. This time, our featured guest is MJ Granados-Godoy, Partner at SimplyLegal, a boutique transactional law firm dedicated to providing sound legal advice that is tailored to meet our client’s needs based in Miami, Florida. We don’t always interview clients, but today’s episode is one of our happy Get Staffed Up clients.
In this episode, Brett and MJ discuss how to work with a virtual assistant (VA) and how having the right types of people — team players, for example — is key to growing your business. When you have employees with additional capacity that can cover for another team member, it makes vacations and time off a lot less stressful. It is so important to make your virtual assistants feel part of the team and you can achieve this by including them in-office meetings and other activities and having a consistent meeting rhythm. Also, by delegating tasks, not micromanaging, you can increase their engagement and free up your time to do the things that are a higher and better use of your time. You can’t always know what everyone else is doing, so ask for end-of-day reports, get feedback, and monitor them with weekly scorecards and check-ins.
They also shared pretty cool insights on how when you have the right systems and you are clear with your VAs on what tasks and responsibilities they have to accomplish every so often, you can see how happy and passionate they are about their job. VAs love what they’re doing and, as their leader, you’re trying to help them meet those personal, professional, and financial goals that they want. It’s important to remember that when you have happy employees, you have productive employees.

What does MJ say about GSU?
“You guys were able to find the candidate that met the requirements of what we needed. We have a lot of Spanish-speaking clients and he speaks Spanish perfectly and English very well. He has also been able to grow with us. He has been implementing a lot of marketing ideas that we’ve thrown at him that he wasn’t familiar with and with just a little bit of training he’s been able to launch Clickfunnels campaigns and do a lot of tracking and follow-ups.
I love that he is a really big team player: we asked him to start answering our phones and, even though that was not in his job description, with no problem he started helping us with that task. You guys choose your people very carefully and provide high-quality employees. Bringing him in actually gave him exposure to more clients that call and express what their needs are. As a result, through his marketing, he has been able to target PNCs even more precisely, so it was actually a blessing in disguise.”
