My assistant has been extremely helpful this year. I brought her on and it has been utterly a game changer. In the middle of the pandemic, June was — outside of some really odd outlier projects — just normal bread-and-butter kind of work, and it was the best month I've ever had in my business. Of course it's allowed me to spend more time with my family, which is very important. It's also allowed me to do things in my business and in my professional life that I wanted to do, which is just so wonderful. Isn't that the goal — to have time with your family and to pursue your personal interests, but also to pursue your business interests and your professional interests?

I've always thought being a lawyer is a privilege. We're very lucky to be lawyers. There are a lot of positives that come with being a lawyer, not just status, but just the fact that we get to be challenged every day. I really believe that lawyers deserve to enjoy being lawyers. It's a privilege and we should also enjoy it. So that's part of the freedom piece — to just take the time to be able to enjoy the job and not feel like you're so overworked that you have no time to reflect on how much you enjoy it. I think it's really important to celebrate it. And so that's part of the freedom too: just having the time to think, ""Wow, I'm really happy where I am. My clients are great, my staff is wonderful.

What made me select on the different positions I have here in the firm — the first thing was we did a trial run with the receptionist who is still with us. I think she started with us in 2021 and she's still here with us. So that was my first foray into the remote team member experience. And then — this person is committed, working with GSU is really great. Some other companies, the flow is not as efficient. For me, what's important is equity for the team member. I want to make sure that the team member is treated properly, and I feel that GSU has that for the team members. That's what made me think about expanding the team with you guys.
