How To Support Your Team Members’ Mental Health

Mental Health

This past Sunday, October 10th was “World Mental Health Day.” If you’re a busy law firm owner, there is a good chance that this day may have slipped under the radar. If you did overlook this day, you shouldn’t worry, because many, many people across the country do the same. World Mental Health Day isn’t exactly the most well-known day of the year; it doesn’t receive too much press coverage or airtime on television. The truth is, however, that the state of mind of your employees is something that is invaluable to investigate and support. As we will discuss, the mental health of your employees can tremendously impact the quality of your company. Needless to say, you, as a law firm owner, should also take the time to focus on your own mental health.

The Importance of Good Mental Health

In the U.S. and many other places around the world, mental health is seldom talked about. When mental health is talked about, it’s generally not given the level of attention and affirmation that it deserves. Sadly, in the eyes of many people, it is almost a “taboo” topic. And many people distance themselves from the idea of obtaining some form of treatment or evaluation. There is a sense of shame in some eyes with respect to needing attention from a professional. This is a regrettable state of affairs because the truth is that mental health is just as critical as basic physical health. And while most people wouldn’t feel shame in seeing a family physician or physical therapist, they also shouldn’t feel shame about seeing a mental health professional.

Support Mental Health with a VA

There are many ways you can support the mental health of your employees. Apart from encouraging employees to see a practitioner – such as a therapist or counselor – you can also contribute by lessening stress. And a great way to lessen stress is to ease the collective workload of your company. Hiring a virtual assistant can do wonders for your employees. When you outsource tasks to a VA, you’re able to ease the workload of the company without sacrificing competency, results, or efficiency.

Virtual assistants are able to perform tasks with the same level of efficiency as in-house staff. What’s more, they are able to do so without bringing any additional clutter to the office. Simply put, when you add a VA, you’re creating a net decrease in the stress level of your employees. There is essentially no trade-off, and so your employees will have a substantial net benefit.

Ordinarily, if you introduce a new benefit, you may have to make a sacrifice of some kind and so the net benefit might be fairly low. For instance, when you bring on a new employee, sometimes the office suffers because of additional clutter or consumption of office resources. With a VA, this just simply isn’t the case, and so the net benefit is very substantial.
