September 15 is National Online Learning Day, a day that we use to celebrate the ways in which technology has enabled us to learn more rapidly. National Online Learning Day isn’t something to be taken lightly. If you’re a law firm owner, the chances are you can remember a time when online learning was a thing of the imagination rather than reality. You can probably remember when computers were things that increased productivity by a small bit, rather than a tremendous amount. Don’t Fall Behind – Rise Virtually! Technology has advanced by leaps and bounds in just a few decades, and now computers and online learning have truly revolutionized the workplace and learning in general.
“How can technology help increase my productivity”, you wonder. The so-called “revolutionized” workplace starts when you invest in a virtual assistant – and this is something we strongly encourage. There are plenty of things you can learn from your VA. And there are many things that you can teach your VA. What better day than the National Online Learning Day to jumpstart this process?
Learn from Your VA – And Vice Versa
There are plenty of things you can learn from your VA. This is true even if you happen to be tech-savvy. The things you can learn from your VA depend to some degree on what kind of tasks your VA performs. For instance, if you hire a VA to focus primarily on marketing tasks – brochures, marketing flyers, social media posts, etc. – then your VA will be able to teach you more about these tasks than about other things. Of course, there’s always the possibility that your VA is well-versed in many things and consequently can teach you a lot about a wide range of areas. But, as a general rule, if you hire a VA for a specialized purpose, then expect that your VA can mostly teach you about things related to that purpose.
You can also teach your VA about things related to your business and professional practice. This will only increase your VA’s productivity and enhance your professional relationship. If you practice medical malpractice law, then the more your VA knows about this area the better. Your VA will be able to converse with you on a more three-dimensional level if he or she is aware of your practice. You can also teach your VA about computer-related things if you have the ability to do so.

Webinars As Learning Tool
Webinars – i.e. video conferencing – are becoming increasingly popular as means to share information and conduct intensive learning sessions. Given that you will communicate with your VA through video conferencing on a regular basis, you should take the opportunity to conduct webinars in order to better learn from each other. Perhaps you can set up 1 webinar per month and tackle 1 topic in great detail. You can come up with whatever schedule works best for you. But the main thing is that you should take advantage of the opportunity to learn from your VA using this method.
