Candid Convos with Becky Torres

Candid Convos with Becky Torres featuring our Brand Ambassador, Joe Bravo.

We’re excited to share with you our newest episode of Candid Convos; where we discuss virtual staffing in the new remote economy with a business owner, or lawyer, who utilizes virtual staff. This time, our featured guest is Becky Torres. Becky Torres is the founding attorney of the Torres Law Firm based in New Mexico.  She focuses her practice primarily on all areas of water rights and real estate law.  However, she also provides clients representation and advice in the areas of business formation and transactions, estate planning, and probate.

In this amazing episode Joe, the host, and Becky talk about how a tough moment during the pandemic guided her to take one of the best decisions. They start by talking about ‘water rights’ as a profession. Becky explains that it is a very specialized and complex type of law that is most popular in the western side of the country. Her firm represents a variety of ranches, real estate, and agricultural businesses. From a young age, Becky has been exposed to agriculture and she noticed the need for water rights specialists in New Mexico early in her career.

A Watershed Moment

A couple of months into the pandemic Becky’s firm experienced a massive exit of employees. Within a week, almost 60% of her employees left the company. This put a big weight on her shoulders and was unable to have a healthy work-life balance. Becky shares with Joe that she felt like she was drowning, and that was the push she needed to contact Get Staffed Up. Becky needed full-time employees and the local applicant pool was very shallow. Through Get Staffed Up she was able to hire her first virtual assistant in April 2021, and the second virtual assistant in August 2021.

Joe asks what type of work her assistants do. Becky explains the different roles her assistants play. One takes the paralegal role, she focuses on drafting contracts, communicating with clients, and managing the agenda. The second assistant takes the administrative role, she sends contacts, does billing, manages emails, etc. Lastly, Becky shares how proud she is of the culture she has built at her firm. They have a zoom meeting every morning, and it allows them to be more productive and streamlined.
