This time, our featured guest is MJ Granados-Godoy, Partner at SimplyLegal, a boutique transactional law firm dedicated to providing sound legal advice that is tailored to meet our clients’ needs based in Miami, Florida. We don’t always interview clients, but today’s episode is one of our happy Get Staffed Up clients.
In this episode, Brett and MJ discuss how to work with a virtual assistant (VA) and how having the right types of people — team players, for example — is key to growing your business. When you have employees with additional capacity that can cover for another team member, it makes vacations and time off a lot less stressful. It is so important to make your virtual assistants feel part of the team and you can achieve this by including them on office meetings and other activities, having a consistent meeting rhythm. Also, by delegating tasks, not micromanaging, you can increase their engagement and free up your time to do the things that are a higher and better use of your time. You can’t always know what everyone else is doing, so ask for end of day reports, get feedback and monitor them with weekly scorecards and check-ins.
They also shared pretty cool insights on how when you have the right systems and you are clear with your VAs on what tasks and responsibilities they have to accomplish every so often, you can see how happy and passionate they are about their job. VAs love what they’re doing and, as their leader, you’re trying to help them meet those personal, professional and financial goals that they want. It’s important to remember that when you have happy employees, you have productive employees.
